Cookout

Every two months a birthday party is planned for the residence who have or having a birthday during those two months.   Committees were formed for the year and each group then plans the party.  Each committee is free to plan refreshments and a program or whatever they come up with.  This time we will have a cookout at the community building which has a porch around three sides of the building. We'll also use the room inside.

Sunday I went to an open reception for a friend who was celebrating  her 90th birthday.   Someone asked me if I was her sister which would have been an honor but as my husband told a friend that I was twice 39 minus 1.   It is interesting that the older we grow our faces have similar lines.    I probably should have been hurt but I look in the mirror and wow what do I see,  a lady who no longer can pass for years younger.   That is all right as long as I am in good health and able to do many things.      I don't feel old at this point in my life.

This morning I had copies of a birthday invitation made and I delivered most of them to the community members in which I live.   While walking along the route to the different houses I enjoyed the beautiful weather: sunshine and the temperature that I really like.   I like it to be near 65-70, not to hot or not to cool.

On the trip around the circle I saw a number of beautiful flowers.  Now I should have a digital camera but that is in the future, soon I hope.  One of the flowers I especially like is a large deep purple Iris. I did have some but so far I don't see any, the area has become very shaded as our young trees have gotten very tall.  We have live here about 15 years when this place was first developed.

We like the shade on the west side as the house would get very warm in the late spring, through to fall.   So now I need to plant flowers that grow well in mostly shade.   I have planted three hosta plants last fall and they are growing but there is space for a number of other plants.
